About the Photographer & Studio

1. Who is the boudoir photographer behind Artography by Bethany (Fargo Boudoir) in Fargo-Moorhead?
Bethany Johs is a portrait & boudoir photographer based in West Fargo, ND, with 15+ of experience specializing in boudoir and intimate portrait photography. She’s photographed over 1,000 women in the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding areas.

2. What makes Artography by Bethany different from a general portrait photographer who also offers boudoir?
Boudoir requires a different skill set than family or event photography – posing for flattering angles, directing a client through vulnerability, and lighting for skin and shadow. Artography by Bethany shoots boudoir as a dedicated specialty, meaning every session benefits from repetition-built expertise rather than a general photographer’s occasional boudoir booking.

3. Is Artography by Bethany insured and is the studio a licensed business in North Dakota?
Yes. Artography by Bethany is a licensed business operating in ND, carries professional liability insurance, and follows a strict privacy policy. Ask about policies before booking with any boudoir photographer.

4. Can I see real client testimonials or reviews from Fargo-Moorhead clients?
Yes – client reviews are available on her Google Business Profile, and Artography by Bethany can share anonymized before/after examples or full galleries (with client permission) during your consultation call.

What Boudoir Photography Actually Is

5. What is boudoir photography?
Boudoir photography is an intimate, empowerment-focused portrait session, typically shot in a bedroom-style or studio setting, that celebrates a client’s body and confidence. It ranges from tasteful and covered to more revealing, entirely based on what the client is comfortable with – there is no single “look” that defines it.

6. Is boudoir photography the same as glamour or nude photography?
No. Boudoir sits on its own spectrum. Glamour photography emphasizes styled, magazine-style beauty shots; nude/fine art photography is generally more artistic and less clothing-focused. Boudoir is client-directed – you choose your comfort level, from lingerie and oversized sweaters to more revealing looks, and a good photographer will never push you past what you’ve agreed to.

7. Who typically books a boudoir session in Fargo-Moorhead?
Clients range widely: brides preparing a gift for their fiancé, women celebrating a milestone birthday, postpartum moms reclaiming body confidence, divorcees marking a new chapter, and individuals simply wanting to see themselves the way others see them. Local demand also spikes around engagement season and Valentine’s Day gifting.

First-Timer Nerves & Body Confidence

8. I’m nervous about my first boudoir session, is that normal?
Completely normal. Most first-time clients say the nerves faded within the first 10–15 minutes once posing guidance started. A skilled boudoir photographer directs every pose, so you never have to “know how to model” walking in.

9. Do I need to be a certain body type or size to do boudoir?
No. Boudoir photography works for every body type, size, age, and gender. Posing, lighting, and camera angles are adjusted specifically to each client’s body to highlight what they love most about themselves – this is a core skill of an experienced boudoir photographer, not a one-size-fits-all template.

10. I just had a baby / I’m not “in shape” right now, should I wait?
Many clients book specifically during postpartum recovery or before reaching a fitness goal, not after. A skilled photographer poses and lights for your body as it is today; waiting for a “perfect” body is rarely necessary and often just delays a session clients end up loving.

11. Is boudoir photography empowering even if I’ve never done anything like this before?
Most first-time clients describe the session as more emotional and confidence-building than they expected. Many say the biggest shift wasn’t the photos themselves but seeing their body through a supportive, professional lens for the first time.

Session Logistics

12. Where are boudoir sessions held – Fargo, Moorhead, or on-location?
Sessions are held at Artography by Bethany’s private studio located in West Fargo near the fairgrounds. On-location sessions are not available.

13. How long does a boudoir session take?
Sessions typically run 4 hours, including hair/makeup touch-ups, wardrobe changes, and posing direction. Plan for 4.5 hours total if professional hair and makeup is included.

14. Does Artography by Bethany offer hair and makeup on-site?
Yes, Artography by Bethany partners with local Fargo-Moorhead hair and makeup artists who come to the studio, so you don’t have to coordinate a separate appointment across town.

15. What should I wear or bring to my session?
A pre-session styling guide is provided after booking, covering lingerie, oversized shirts, robes, jewelry, and any sentimental items (like a partner’s flannel) you’d like included. Most clients bring 3–5 outfits; the studio also keeps an inclusive client wardrobe closet available to borrow from (XS-6X).

16. What time of year is best to book in Fargo-Moorhead?
Winter and early spring (January–April) tend to book fastest due to Valentine’s Day gifting and engagement-season brides. Booking 4 weeks ahead is recommended, especially for weekend slots.

Privacy & Comfort

17. Who sees my photos? Is my privacy protected?
Your images are private by default and never posted publicly, on social media, or in a portfolio without your explicit consent – image by image. Files are stored securely and delivered through a secure cloud service only you can access.

18. Can I request a female-only crew for my session?
Artography by Bethany has an all-female team (photographer, hair, makeup, assistant).

19. What if I want to back out of certain poses during the shoot?
You’re in control the entire time. Any client can pause, skip a pose, or stop the session at any point – there’s no obligation to do anything you didn’t agree to beforehand.

20. Do you photograph LGBTQ+ clients?
Yes. Artography by Bethany welcomes clients of all genders, orientations, and relationship statuses.

Pricing & What You Receive

21. How much does a boudoir session cost in Fargo-Moorhead?
A full price guide is available by request. Artography by Bethany avoids publishing a single flat number due to the custom nature of each session and final investment depends on the product collection chosen.
