I remember coming back from assisting @suebrycephotographer with 3 weeks of workshops in Paris... only to learn that my old studio was going to be torn down to make room for new development. I had five weeks to find a new space and I`m thankful I found my current location within the first week. I was able to design it and select all the finishes, then move in five weeks later. So much positivity and love live within these walls! As I get closer to retirement... I`d love to photograph as many women as I can. Here are three of the biggest myths that keep women from booking a boudoir session... and the truth behind them.
1. "I need to lose weight first."
This is the number one reason women wait... sometimes for years.
The truth is, boudoir isn`t about a number on the scale. Professional posing, lighting, wardrobe styling, and camera angles are designed to flatter every body. You don`t need to change your body before celebrating it.
2. "I`m not photogenic."
Neither are most of my clients... at least that`s what they tell me.
The women you see in my photos aren`t models. They`re everyday women who are guided through every pose, expression, and movement. You don`t have to know what to do. That`s my job.
3. "Boudoir is only for young women or brides."
Boudoir is for any woman ready to reconnect with herself.
Some book before their wedding. Others after divorce, motherhood, illness, a milestone birthday, or simply because they`ve spent years putting everyone else first.
Confidence doesn`t have an expiration date.
The women who are the most nervous before their session are often the ones who cry happy tears when they see their portraits. The biggest obstacle usually isn`t the camera... it`s the story they`ve been telling themselves.

Five ways to prep for your portrait session:
1. Skip makeup, wash your hair. Hair and makeup are done at the studio, so arrive with clean, product-free hair and bare or lightly moisturized skin. Bring a reference photo if you have a signature look you love.
2. Pick flattering clothes... or use the client closet. Solid colors and well-fitted pieces photograph best; busy patterns and logos distract. V-necks and scoop necks tend to flatter more than crew necks. No outfit ready? Browse the client closet for pre-styled, photo-friendly options in your size.
3. Hydrate and skip new skincare. Drink water, sleep well, and stick to your usual routine in the days before... new products can cause redness or breakouts. Exfoliate gently 2 days prior (not the day of) for smoother makeup application. Skip alcohol and salty food the night before to reduce puffiness.
4. Tell your photographer what to highlight (and what not to). Share what you love and what makes you self-conscious, no over-explaining needed. Posing techniques like turning slightly away from camera or lifting the chin can flatter the jawline and neck.
5. Just show up... posing is guided for you. No need to practice expressions or hand placement. Everything is directed in the moment. Just relax your shoulders, breathe, and let a calm body do the work.
Bonus tip: Plan something fun afterward, like dinner or drinks with friends. You`ll walk out glowing and confident... keep that energy going instead of heading straight home.
